Well the dress is coming along nicely. Thanks to the tireless efforts of my mother dearest. From the muslin to the construction of the bodice and tutu the dress has now progressed to have all the embroidery sewn on and the panels made. Currently the panels are pinned in place I just need to sew them in. Also I need to make my bloomers, cape and head band.
Tonight I’m off to my dancing teacher’s house to ‘pimp-my-dress’ and attack it with diamontes so that should be good. Fingers crossed it comes together for Saturday!
The beginning of one of my biggest sewing projects yet… my irish dancing dress!
Naturally there are no patterns for such a thing (there’s a couple online but the style has changed since). So I have begun by making a muslin of a jacket pattern that I sourced from BurdaStyle online (the Steffi jacket – only $3 bargin). I altered the pattern to have a front panel, a zip down the back and bell sleeves. Everything else seemed to fit well – I think.
Luckily my mother, sewing-extraordinaire, is in town and is going to come over and will have a look at the fitting for me and give me some ideas how to make the panels (seeing as she made my last two dresses!)
The skirt is going to be super tricky and I need to source some one that will do my embroidery and not charge an arm-and-a-leg! In saying that I’m housing sitting at the moment and massively enjoying having a dining table to convert into my sewing table much to Mr’s dismay.
Let’s see if I can get it complete for states in three weeks time (pushing my luck? perhaps just slightly) Watch this space!
Site Visit 19.06.11
We had a site visit on the weekend to meet one of the local builders, go through the design and check out some recently built houses on the Island.
That same day a sea plane pilot decided to check out Coochi and so we just happened to be given the opportunity to go for a ride!
The parents shouted us a plane ride for all the time that we have been investing into the project – not bad for a first commission!
It was the most perfect, clear winter’s day and just perfect to get some shots of Coochi and surrounding islands.
Until next time – J.
Well I finally have something to share for Coochi House!
Preliminary plan finally resolved and the form of the house is taking shape. We have more detailing to complete and some elements to tweak. I’m loving the courtyard and look forward to seeing the project develop.

I may or may not really want to see this movie! Com’on bring it to Australia!

I’ve been working on this these yellow, toweling pants for a while now. My partner and I had a great idea to make him some shorts in towelling material. I’m using a standard men’s trouser pattern complete with fly, front and back pockets, waist band and belt loops. I’ve just slowly been doing bits and pieces, hopefully I’ll finish them soon as his brother is already lined up for a pair of his own!
